ALPINIST Case - Model M5
The original ALPINIST Case model! Designed specifically for ultra-compact point and shoot cameras, the M5 strikes an excellent balance between being small enough to carry along on a vertical climbing pitch or epic ski tour, yet large enough to accommodate and protect a high-end compact digital camera.
ALPINIST Case - Model R5
Similar to the M5, the R5 was designed to be compact, light and extremely durable - perfect for that epic adventure in the mountains. The R5 is slightly larger (relative to the M5) in all dimensions, thus it can accommodate a larger range of compact point and shoot cameras - maybe bigger is better!
ALPINIST Case - Model X5
The X5 is identical to the R5 in the width and thickness dimensions, yet much taller to allow cameras larger in length. It is perfect for cameras like the legendary GR film series cameras from Ricoh. If you have a compact camera that is longer that some of the newer cameras, the X5 might be the ALPINIST Case for you!
ALPINIST Case - Model L5
The L5 is the oversized sibling of the current ALPINIST Case family. It is much wider to accommodate point and shoot cameras with advanced (and larger) optics like the Leica D-Lux and Panasonic LX series. Also, it allows for more internal foam padding for a higher level of protection to the stored camera. Due to its size the L5 model is designed primarily to be carried on a lateral back pack strap using the optional Rail Attachment System.
Case Sizing
Because the ALPINIST Case is designed and intended to be carried during a vertical climbing pitch or during other demanding activities, there is a finite size and weight constraint. Realistically, no matter how easy it is to access your camera, if it is too big or heavy, it will always stay home or at the base of the climb.
As a result of this size constraint, the ALPINIST Case is available in four sizes - M5, R5, X5, and L5. We went to great lengths to optimize the size of each case such that they were "as big as possible" (to fit the largest array of compact cameras), yet not overly big thus discouraging you from taking your camera along for the epic.
